YOUR LOCAL ACTIVE SCHOOLS

Dumfries and Galloway currently have a team of Active Schools and Community Sport Officers to cover all Primary and Secondary Schools in the region.

Each Officer works in partnership with a cluster of schools and the wider community to draw together local resources to increase physical activity levels for children and young people.

By working with community organisations, sports clubs and schools Active Schools can give children the tools, motivation, and opportunities to be more active throughout their school years and into adulthood.

Darren Malin has taken over as the Active Schools and Community Sports Lead Officer for the Stewartry.

CLYDE VISITS KIRKCUDBRIGHT PRIMARY

Clyde the Commonwealth Games Mascot & tour attended Kirkcudbright  primary school on the morning of Thursday 22nd August and entertained,  excited and inspired all the children to get behind and look forward to the Glasgow games next year.

The children were overwhelmed at seeing Clyde as well as Scottish Athletes Susan Egelstaff (Badminton) and David Carry (Swimming), the teachers who likewise were impressed were however worrying how to bring the children back down to earth for the remainder of the day.

Local Councillors also attended and likewise were inspired by the message the tour was giving.

Mark represents Active Schools on the Kirkcudbright Community Sport Hub steering group and is building partnership opportunities between the participating clubs and school community.
